Man's shooting in Southampton 'drug-related'
The fatal shooting of a man in Southampton is believed to be a drug-related crime, police have revealed.
Jahmel Jones, 23, was found at a property in St Mary Street at about 11:00 BST on Saturday.
Three men, aged 18, 21 and 41 and two women, aged 21 and 36, have been arrested on suspicion of his murder.
Police believe the victim, from Lyon Street, Southampton, and the suspects were known to each other. Detectives have also appealed for witnesses.
Ch Insp Craig Dibdin said although the public were not thought to be in any danger, officers would remain in the area while searches continue of the property where Mr Jones was found.
He added: "We are following a number of lines of inquiry that cause us to believe at this time this is a drug-related incident where the victim and suspects were known to each other in some way, and this incident has occurred as a result of their criminal activity."
Police believe Mr Jones was shot with a handgun, although no weapon has been recovered.
A post-mortem examination was due to take place earlier.
Hampshire Constabulary launched Operation Fortress in May last year to crack down on drug-related violence in Southampton.
It was set up in response to a number of violent crimes in the city, including a shooting and several stabbings.
