Car with £18,000 of parking fines seized in Portsmouth
A car that clocked up to £18,000-worth of parking tickets and fees has been seized by Portsmouth City Council.
The authority said 220 fines had been issued to the driver of a Peugeot since February 2012. None has been paid.
Enforcement powers mean councils can impound cars if the owner fails to pay three penalty notices without making contact.
Vehicles can subsequently be destroyed, still leaving owners liable for the fines, removal and storage fees.
Portsmouth's transport councillor Jason Fazackarley said: "This is an extreme case which is why we have taken the necessary action to seize the vehicle after a blatant disregard by the owner.
"In addition to seizing the vehicle we will pursue legal action to recover the outstanding debt owned."
