A man who pleaded guilty to helping a murderer evade capture after he killed a man during a disturbance at a party has been spared jail.

Marcus Mears admitted helping Sean Bailey after he stabbed Simon Warton, 27, in Dove Close, Waterlooville, in April 2012.

Mears, 42, of Partridge Gardens, was sentenced to 15 months, suspended for 18 months, for assisting an offender.

Bailey was convicted of murder last year and jailed for life.

Bailey was arrested in a flat in Havant two days after the attack, following a public appeal to trace him by police.

Robert Cahill, 25, of Broadmere Avenue, Havant, was found not guilty of assisting an offender in November.
