Man dies after Eastleigh High Street attack
A man has died after apparently being attacked in the street while on his way to work in Hampshire.
The 35-year-old died in hospital following a disturbance in the residential part of Eastleigh's High Street at about 04:30 BST, police said.
Two men have been arrested and remain in custody.
Police believe one person lost their shoes during the attack and have asked residents to get in touch if they find footwear in their gardens.
The force said the dead man, from the local area, was believed to have been "accosted by two men".
He suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died a short time later.
A post-mortem examination will take place later on Sunday or on Monday.
The street remained cordoned off throughout Sunday while the scene was forensically examined.
Flowers were laid outside a newsagent's close to the cordon.
Det Supt Paul Barton, who is leading the investigation, said: "We will be studying CCTV from the area and we urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any information which could help us, to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.
"We believe it is possible that one of the suspects may have lost their footwear during the altercation and we would ask that if any local residents find any shoes discarded in their garden or along the road from the route along the High Street to Chestnut Avenue to please just contact us and we will collect them."
