Police investigating the murder of a woman found stabbed to death in the New Forest have arrested a second woman.

Penelope Davis, 47, known as Pennie, was found dead in a field at Leygreen Farm, Beaulieu.

A 28-year-old from Hythe, Hampshire, is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

Police have also been given more time to hold a 36-year-old man, who was arrested in Southampton on Tuesday evening on suspicion of murder.

Magistrates have granted Hampshire Police an extension until 20:00 BST on Friday to continue questioning him.

Mother-of-five Mrs Davis's body was found by her husband on 2 September, where she had been tending to her horses.

The supermarket worker, from Blackfield, died from multiple stab wounds.

Police earlier arrested three other people in connection with her death.

Leanne Doyle, 24, of Beech Crescent, Hythe, was charged with assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

She has been bailed and is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on 1 October.

A 22-year-old man, previously arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on bail, while a 37-year-old man held on suspicion of assisting an offender was also bailed.

Crimestoppers has offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of Mrs Davis's killer.
