A driver fled after a car crashed into an embankment, somersaulted through the air and plunged into the sea.

Witnesses reported seeing the driver walk away from the vehicle, which ended up in Langstone Harbour, after careering off Eastern Road, Portsmouth.

An RNLI lifeboat was used to help coastguards recover the BMW at about 02:40 GMT and check it was empty.

Police have since spoken to the driver, who escaped with minor injuries. No arrests have been made.
