Teenage girl wounded in Fratton hammer attack

A 17-year-old girl was attacked with what was believed to be a hammer at a house in Portsmouth.

Police were called to Shearer Road, Fratton, just before 19:00 BST on Monday.

A shopkeeper said the girl, who had been dog sitting at the house, was attacked as she answered a knock at the door.

The girl was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. She is in a serious but stable condition.

No arrests have yet been made.

Any witnesses who were in the area at the time are urged to contact Hampshire Constabulary.
