A 51-year-old man has died after getting into difficulties while kitesurfing off the coast of Hampshire.

The man was in the sea near Hayling Island when he got into trouble during a sudden squall on Sunday morning.

A fellow kitesurfer dragged him to a buoy and raised the alarm with lifeboats.

He was taken ashore and the coastguard helicopter was called to the scene. The man was airlifted to hospital but later died.

Hampshire Constabulary said he was from Hayling Island and that officers were supporting his family.
