Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnap offences following a car crash.

The victim, a man aged 23, has "critical, life-changing head injuries" as a result of the crash between Eastleigh and Southampton, police said.

All three men were in a Vauxhall Astra which hit a stationary car and a telegraph pole on Wide Lane.

The suspects, from London and Southampton, have been released pending an investigation.

Hampshire Constabulary has only just released details of the crash, which happened between 21:45 and 22:00 BST on Thursday.

Detectives said they wanted to trace witnesses who saw a man walking away from the scene, near the M27 bridge in Wide Lane.

A 22-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnap and a driving offence, police said.

A London man, aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted kidnap, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, theft and four driving offences.
