Herefordshire tourist centres face closure risk

Herefordshire's tourist information centres are facing the threat of closure with staff losing their jobs under proposals to be discussed later.

Herefordshire Council is discussing plans to move some centres from leased buildings into council premises.

A report said there would be some redeployment but compulsory redundancies could not be ruled out.

The council has centres in Hereford, Ledbury, Leominster, Ross on Wye and Queenswood.

The council said there had been a reduction in the numbers of people using such facilities with many visitors now depending on information from the internet.

The report said every effort would be made to re-deploy staff, though there was a risk of redundancy.

In Ross, the centre will be integrated into the Ross Heritage Centre while the Leominster and Ledbury centres may move to the towns' customer services centres.

Options are being explored for the centres in Hereford and Queenswood, the report said.
