Man arrested over Hope under Dinmore crash death

An 18-year-old driver has been arrested over the death of a passenger who died when the car he was travelling in left the road, rolled over and caught fire.

The men were travelling along the A49 in Hope under Dinmore, Herefordshire, when their car crashed on a hill at about 0245 BST on Sunday.

Police said two men had minor injuries but a third man died at the scene.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and was bailed pending further inquiries.

'Tragic death'

The A49 was closed until 1930 BST on Sunday while the Highways Agency carried out essential road repairs.

Police said the men were heading towards Leominster when their car left the road at Dinmore Hill, close to the junction with the A417, and rolled down the embankment.

Insp David Perridge, of West Mercia Police said: "This crash has led to the tragic death of a young man who was only 18 and we need to establish exactly what occurred on Dinmore Hill."
