An application over a proposed new Tesco supermarket in Worcestershire has been approved, a council has said.

Wyre Forest council said approval was given for plans for a store at a former Carpets of Worth site in Stourport after a meeting on Tuesday.

Midcounties Co-operative has had two legal appeals over the issue.

District council leader John Campion said: "A town of this size needs healthy competition in its supermarket provision."

The leader of the Conservative-controlled authority added: "The application in my view will see much-needed competition into the town and offer consumers a choice."
