Armed raiders target Redditch betting shop

Armed raiders have threatened staff at a betting shop in Worcestershire.

Two men wearing balaclavas and carrying knives attempted to rob William Hill in the Woodrow Centre, Redditch, at about 2115 BST on Saturday, police said.

They demanded money from two members of staff, then one of the men leapt over the counter and forced open the till.

There was no money inside so the men left the shop and headed towards an alleyway leading to St Thomas More Catholic First School car park.

West Mercia Police has been carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area and is studying CCTV footage from the scene.

Det Con Dave Jennings said: "Although the staff were not physically harmed they were left extremely shaken by this incident and we are determined to track down those responsible."

Both men were dressed in hooded, black track suits and were about 5ft 8in (1.73m) and 5ft 10in (1.77m) tall, police said.
