Firefighters in Herefordshire and Worcestershire were called to nearly 90 flooded properties during five days over the festive period.

Most of calls the came on Monday as the thaw began, with 48 in the 24 hours up to about 0800 GMT on Tuesday.

Community safety manager Grant Wills recommended that pipes should be checked and suitably insulated.

He said people should know where the stop tap was in case they needed to turn it off when pipes burst.
