MP Mark Garnier in winter funds plea

An MP who found himself stranded at home by snow has said more needs to be spent on tackling wintry conditions.

Mark Garnier, Conservative MP for Wyre Forest, Worcestershire, said the government and local councils would have to make a "difficult call".

If the extreme weather continued, he said, more would have to be spent on gritters and snow-clearing equipment.

Mr Garnier said that in other countries, people were expected to pay for snow-tyres.

"This is the second year running I have been snowed in," he said. "Is it going to carry on again into the future? In which case, we will have to start to make those investments."
