A man has been charged after a fatal crash in Hereford that killed a couple who had just dropped their baby son off at nursery.

Terri-Ann Barnett and Thomas Matts were killed when a lorry hit a bridge in Belmont Road on 7 February, shedding its load of timber.

West Mercia Police said a 49-year-old man has been charged with two counts of causing death by careless driving.

He has been bailed to appear at Hereford Magistrates' Court on 1 June.

Mr Matts died at hospital and Miss Barnett died a day later.

Both had been walking along the road when the accident happened.

Mr Matts, 29, was one of six brothers, while 24-year-old Miss Barnett left her parents Ralph and Diane, two brothers and a sister.

The couple lived on Broxash Drive in Hereford with their baby son Morgan.
