Wormbridge building site trench death: Man arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a building site worker was found dying at the bottom of a roadside trench in Herefordshire.

Adi Andrews was found at the bottom of a 13ft (4m) trench at the site, off the A465 in Wormbridge, on 22 October.

Paramedics said he suffered a cardiac arrest and crews could not save him.

Police said a 48-year-old man had been arrested and officers were working with the Health and Safety Executive. The man was released on police bail.

Last week, West Midlands Ambulance Service said Mr Andrews, 46, had been carrying out ground work on the building site when his colleagues realised he had disappeared.

A spokeswoman said builders used a digger and ropes to help medical staff lift Mr Andrews out of the trench.

Mr Andrews, from Grosmont, Monmouthshire, worked as a self-employed builder and also volunteered as a presenter on Hereford Hospital Radio.
