A major route through Worcester will be closed until the end of October to allow gas and water mains work.

The A38 Sansome Walk is shut between St Mary's Street and Sansome Place, Worcestershire Country Council said.

National Grid will spend two weeks replacing a gas main. After that Severn Trent Water will use the same trenches to install new water mains.

John Smith, from the council, said working back to back would reduce the "inevitable" disruption for commuters.
