A man has been arrested following the discovery of ammunition and chemicals at a village property.

Residents from a "small number of properties" have been evacuated as part of the investigation in Walwyn Road, Colwall, near Malvern, police said.

Supt Sue Thomas said officers were working with the Army and fire crews to make sure "all the items are removed and made safe."

She said the incident had been contained and no-one had been injured.

A 49-year-old man from Worcester remains in police custody.

"A full investigation is under way following the man's arrest and we are now making inquiries to establish the exact nature of the chemicals.

"However, at this time, there is nothing to suggest that this is in any way linked to any terrorist activity," Ms Thomas added.

A cordon has been put in place while work is carried out at the property and part of Walwyn Road is closed.

Residents in Colwall reported seeing a bomb disposal team at the scene, following three days of police activity centred on a house in the village.

One resident, Tim Dixon, tweeted that part of "sleepy Colwall" had become a hub of police activity.
