North Lincolnshire village flood defence work complete

Work to strengthen flood defences in a North Lincolnshire village have been completed.

Improvements to embankments along a stretch of the River Trent in Gunness, near Scunthorpe, started in January.

The work has been completed five weeks ahead of schedule and cost £1.4m, £500,000 less than originally forecast.

The Environment Agency moved to improve the defences, which were built in the 1930s, after finding they were prone to failure.
