A new £14m health centre is to be built on the Bransholme housing estate in Hull, it has been announced.

The Bransholme Health Centre will replace the current facility on the city's Goodhart Lane. It is expected to open in 2012.

Developers Citycare said the new centre was needed because of an increase in the number of patients, and to provide more services.

GPs and community nursing teams will be based at the centre.

It will also offer public health services including smoking cessation sessions and weight management programmes.
