Pile-ups prompt icy roads warning
Icy roads have caused widespread disruption to traffic in northern Lincolnshire.
The westbound carriageway of the A180 out of Grimsby was closed for several hours after two pile-ups.
The A18 Mortal Ash Hill near the steelworks in Scunthorpe was also badly affected as ice caused several vehicles to collide.
A Met Office severe weather alert said icy conditions would remain in the region until at least Christmas Day.
Temperatures dropped to about -8C in north Lincolnshire overnight and were expected to hit -5C on Tuesday night, the Met Office said.
In East Yorkshire, the sub-zero temperatures caused level crossing barriers in Beverley's Station Square, to freeze in the down position causing traffic snarl-ups for the second successive day on Tuesday.
Technicians were called out to fix the barriers and traffic was later flowing freely, Humberside Police said.
