Two arrested after man punched outside Hull bar dies

A man who was seriously injured after he was assaulted outside a Hull pub in the early hours of New Year's Day has died in hospital.

Wayne Amess, 40, of Woodgate Road, Hull, was punched in the face after a disturbance outside The George on Walton street.

Humberside Police said he died at Hull Royal Infirmary on Saturday evening.

A 38-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident.

They are being held in police custody and are being questioned by detectives.

Witness appeal

Police said they wanted to speak to anyone who was in The George pub in the early hours of Saturday, or anyone who was outside and saw what happened.

Det Ch Insp John Harding said: "The victim has died and it is now a murder inquiry.

"There were a lot of people at the pub at the time of the incident and it is important that we speak to everyone who was in the area.

"We believe there may have been an altercation inside the pub earlier in the evening and I would like to speak to anyone who was there and witnessed what happened."
