Plans for a new 22-pitch traveller site on the outskirts of an East Yorkshire resort have been approved by a council.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council gave consent to the £1.4m site close to the existing Woldgate facility at Bridlington.

Initial plans were revised after local opposition, and more discussions were held to allow further scrutiny of the scheme.

Work on the new site at Bessingby Hill is expected to be completed in 2012.
