Linden House mental health patients stole drugs

Three residents of a mental health unit were taken to hospital after breaking into a treatment room and taking drugs.

Police wearing riot gear found the men, including one who was semi-conscious, at Linden House, Market Weighton, near York, on Sunday.

They had been called over concerns the men could pose a danger to staff.

Police say they are working with the unit to establish what happened. One of the men, 21, is receiving treatment at Hull Royal Infirmary.

Neighbours 'at risk'

His condition is not said to be life-threatening.

The two other men, aged 20 and 40, have been discharged.

The Healthcare Commission found multiple failings at privately-run Linden House in a damning report in 2009, after two residents absconded.

Officials said in that case the safety of nearby residents had been put at risk and warned the centre could be closed unless improvements were made.

Linden House Hospital said the problems identified were being addressed.
