Market Weighton Life Centre expands with lottery funds

A community centre has expanded in East Yorkshire after receiving support from the Big Lottery Fund.

The Life Centre in Market Weighton will receive £340,000 over three years to provide activities and five staff.

The centre aims to reduce isolation among older adults, provide training and skills for those looking for jobs and to support young people.

Activities offered at the centre will include a job club, computer training and the use of three allotments.

Life Centre manager Dr Alex Appiah said: "We have a great opportunity to provide the people of the Western Wolds with facilities and activities which encourage local participation, community building and a welcoming place for young people to come.

"With our newly assembled team, we have increased the range of activities for residents and invested in a brand new 16-computer IT suite to add to the facilities."

The Life Centre was previously used as a drop-in zone and youth club.
