A1033 Hedon Road link to Hull King George Dock to be revamped

A major road leading to Hull's ferry terminal at King George Dock is to get £590,000 of government cash to ease congestion.

The money will be spent on a dedicated port-bound lane and traffic signals on the A1033 Northern Gateway Hedon Road.

The funding has come from the Department for Transport's £217m "pinch point" road improvement programme.

The Highways Agency said the scheme would reduce "extensive congestion and improve safety".

Councillor Martin Mancey, from Hull City Council, welcomed the funding.

He said: "Ensuring safe and efficient access to the port is particularly important given the critical role which the port will play in the developing renewables industry."

The work is expected to start in the autumn of 2013.
