Parents in Scunthorpe have been warned to be vigilant after the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl in the town.

Humberside Police said a driver stopped his car in Anne's Crescent, leant out of the window and grabbed the girl by the elbow.

The girl hit out at the driver and ran away. She was uninjured.

The incident happened at about 15:00 BST on Friday. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The suspect, described as a white man, was driving a black, five-door car with a badge on the front of the bonnet that stood up.

Det Supt Judi Heaton said the girl was shaken by the attack.

She said: "With any incident like this involving children we put a lot of resources in to try and find out who it is."
