A derelict restaurant on a major road in East Yorkshire is to be turned into the county's only licensed sex shop.

The former Little Chef on the A63 at South Cave is to be part of the Pulse and Cocktails chain after councillors approved a licensing application.

Two people objected to the application, stating the location on a main route into Hull was not appropriate.

The firm argued the location was ideal as customers would have to travel by car and children would not pass by.

In a letter to planning officers, director Graham Kidd said the majority of the firm's stores were at out-of-town roadside locations.

Moral objection dismissed

He said window displays would be similar to those of high street lingerie stores and would not be "overtly sexual or offensive".

The two emails from local residents were the only official objections submitted to the council.

Both residents said the location was inappropriate and one also objected on moral grounds.

However, the planning committee was told by officers that objections could not be based on moral grounds.

They also said the location of the premises was so remote that the only other consideration was a nearby service station, whose owners had not complained.
