North and East Yorkshire beaches get lifeguard patrols

Lifeguard patrols are operating on beaches in North and East Yorkshire from the bank holiday weekend until September, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution has said.

The lifeguards will be covering beaches at Whitby, Filey and Scarborough.

And guards will be on duty at Bridlngton's north and south beaches as well as Hornsea and Withernsea.

The RNLI said the guards were on hand to offer advice on water safety and 95% of the role was preventing incidents.
