£5m new lock gates installed at Grimsby docks

Two new lock gates costing £5m have been installed at Grimsby docks.

The gates, each weighing 70 tonnes, replace the 162-year-old system which was "hugely inefficient", dock owner Associated British Ports (ABP) said.

The gates can be operated during low tide, allowing ships 24-hour access to the port.

ABP said the system would benefit energy companies including Siemens, Dong, E.On and Centrica, which have vessels based at the dock.
