A speeding driver who struck and killed a teenage boy on a North Lincolnshire road has been jailed for six years.

Koen Allwood, 15, was struck in Barton near the Humber Bridge in November last year.

Katie Gregg, who was 15 and walking with Koen at the time, was also hit and suffered serious injuries.

Damian Benson, 24, was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court after admitting death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Benson, of High Street, Barton, was also banned from driving for five years.

The court heard Benson was driving between 48mph and 52mph in a 30mph zone. He was driving a defective car at the time.

Benson, who was 23 at the time of the incident, had bragged about his fast driving on social media, the court heard.

Sentencing him, Judge Jacqueline Davies said: "You've failed to give way, you failed to notice pedestrians, you reacted too late.

"No sentence can bring Koen back or restore Katie back to the happy, lively girl she was."

More than 150 fellow pupils from Baysgarth School attended Koen's funeral last year.
