A man has been arrested over a raid on a village shop in which a stolen forklift truck was used to rip a cash machine from a wall.

The ATM, which was stolen from the Spar in Church Lane, Thorngumbald on Thursday, has since been recovered, along with a van used in the raid.

The transit van was found abandoned in a farmer's field, Humberside Police said.

A 22-year-old man from Hull was arrested on suspicion of theft.

Linda Carrington, who works in the shop, described the aftermath as "an absolute mess".

It is the latest in a number of similar raids across East Yorkshire over the last year.
