Woman hits sex attacker in Faversham with sandal

A 55-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted by a man escaped her attacker after hitting him over the head with her sandal.

The incident happened at Iron Wharf in Abbey Street, Faversham when the woman was sitting reading on a bench.

The man approached her at about 2000 BST on 24 July and struck up a conversation but then went away.

He returned about half an hour later, when the assault took place. The man is described as white and of medium build.

He was 5ft 10in tall, in his 60s and wearing fawn trousers and a green top.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.
