Work has begun on a £178,000 skate and BMX park in Kent.

The custom-designed facility at Cozenton Park in Rainham will include ramps and rails for users of all abilities as well as a seating area.

The Medway Council scheme, behind Splashes Leisure Centre, is being funded by the National Lottery Fund.

The site, which will be ready to use in November, will be suitable for skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMX bike riders.

'Hard work'

The site has been designed using ideas from local skaters and riders.

Councillor Howard Doe, of Medway Council, said: "We're committed to providing a first class range of play facilities for children and young people in Medway and this new skate and wheel park will give people living in and near Rainham somewhere new to go.

"I'm impressed by the dedication and hard work of the young people who will use this park have put into this project.

"Their feedback has helped shape what will be included in the park, which is really important on a project such as this."
