Fourth arrest over Gillingham assault

A fourth man has been arrested after a serious assault in Kent which left another man in a critical condition in a hospital intensive care unit.

Police said an 18-year-old man was held on Sunday morning, bringing the total number of people arrested to four.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, was attacked in Balmoral Road, Gillingham, on Saturday morning.

Three men, aged 18, 19 and 21, arrested on Saturday are still being questioned by officers.

Officers were called to the incident near the junction with Avondale Road at about 0820 BST on Saturday.

The man who was attacked and suffered head injuries was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

Balmoral Road was cordoned off on Saturday as police officers carried out an investigation.
