Hay stolen from Kent Wildlife Trust nature reserve

Thieves have stolen more than a hundred hay bales from a Kent nature reserve.

The theft happened at Marden Meadow, near Staplehurst, which is run by the Kent Wildlife Trust.

The trust said the warm, dry spring caused a shortage of hay, forcing up prices and prompting an increase in thefts.

The theft took place during the last week, possibly overnight, but was only noticed when a neighbour reported that the gate had been left wide open.
