A Kent teenager has said she is lucky to be alive after she was hit by a car in Dover that she claims deliberately accelerated towards her.

Sophie Carter, 13, was treated in hospital for a knee injury after the silver or blue Ford Fiesta-type car hit her at 1330 GMT on Saturday.

When her mother shouted at the driver following the incident in Priory Street, he laughed and drove off.

Kerry-Ann Carter said he revved his engine and drove straight at her.

The driver is described as white, aged in his late teens or early 20s and with short blond or light brown hair.

Appealing for witnesses, police said Sophie was struck at the junction with Biggin Street.
