Two men hit by car in fight outside Hawkhurst pub

Four men from East Sussex are being questioned by police after two men were struck by a car during a fight outside a Kent pub.

Officers were called to the Queen's Inn in Rye Road, Hawkhurst, at 0040 GMT.

A 41-year-old man was taken to Kent and Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells with leg injuries. He is believed to be in a serious but stable condition.

The second man, aged 22, suffered minor injuries and has since been discharged from hospital.

'Struck by car'

The road was closed while investigations were carried out but re-opened at 0800 GMT.

Det Insp Jon Armory, of Kent Police, said officers were examining a vehicle recovered from the scene.

He said: "It appears that an altercation took place between two groups of people inside the pub which then continued outside.

"During the altercation outside the pub two men were struck by a car.

"We would like to hear from anybody who was drinking at the Queen's Inn on Friday evening."

The four men, aged between 20 and 40, are being questioned in custody.
