A shoplifter from London who drove into a police community support officer at a Kent shopping centre has been jailed.

Sapphia Da-Silva, 28, of Chelsea, admitted theft, battery and failing to stop at a crash scene, at a previous hearing before magistrates in Ashford.

The court heard she crashed into PCSO Daniel Smith and sent him 5ft into the air as she attempted to escape in her car after shoplifting last November.

Mr Smith was seriously injured in the incident at Ashford Designer Outlet.

Da-Silva was given a jail term of 120 days for battery, and another term of 120 days for failing to stop, both to run concurrently.

She was also given a prison term of 90 days for theft, which will also run concurrently.

Magistrates disqualified her from driving for 12 months.
