The body of a Kent man who was due to attend a wedding in Thailand has been found washed up on a beach.

Daniel Medhurst, 35, from Coxheath, Maidstone, had been at a stag party in Phuket, where the wedding was due to take place.

Police say Mr Medhurst was among revellers at a reggae bar who decided to take a late-night swim after a meal.

His friends raised the alarm when he failed to return to his room at the Best Western Allamanda Laguna hotel.

'Lovely man'

Mr Medhurst's family are believed to be on their way to Thailand.

Friends in the village of Coxheath described Mr Medhurst as a "lovely down-to-earth man".

It is not yet known whether the wedding will still take place.

Phuket, Thailand's largest island, to the south of the country, is a popular tourist destination, and cheap flights from the UK have made it increasingly popular for stag parties and weddings.

Bang Tao Beach, where Mr Medhurst was found, is on Phuket's popular west coast.
