Sittingbourne police in bogus carol singers warning

Thieves posed as carol singers to con money from a man who thought they were raising cash for charity.

Kent Police said two men knocked at the door of the victim, in Sittingbourne, at 18:00 GMT on Monday.

The pair, described as teenagers, showed the man a card and said they were raising money for charity.

But when the homeowner turned his back to fetch them money, he returned to find his mobile phone had been stolen from the hallway.

Insp Julie Dodge, of Kent Police, said: "This is a particularly callous crime, preying on the seasonal goodwill of victims."
