Sisters meet for first time in 60 years after Facebook reunion

Two sisters split up as children have met for the first time in almost 60 years after finding each other through Facebook.

Jan Stevens and her brother were placed in care but Evelyn Plumridge stayed with their mother after their parents split up.

Ms Stevens flew to Gatwick on Wednesday from Vancouver, Canada, to meet her sister who lives in Gravesend, Kent.

The sisters had spent more than 40 years trying to trace each other.

Ms Stevens was about 18 months old and Ms Plumridge a baby aged about six months when they last saw each other.

Ms Stevens, now 62, spent seven years in an orphanage before she was sent to live with a new family in Canada at the age of eight.

Their brother remained in the care of the children's home until he reached 16.

Ms Plumridge, 59, said: "I promised my mum I would never give up looking."
