The Iron Lady: Reagan lookalike is property developer

Reginald Green Reginald Green said he had no idea he resembled the former US President

A Kent property developer who has never acted before and only auditioned for a joke appears in the new film about Margaret Thatcher, The Iron Lady.

Reginald Green, 63, from Tunbridge Wells, landed the role of former US President Ronald Reagan, alongside Meryl Streep, who plays Mrs Thatcher.

He said he almost fainted when he was called for a screen test after being spotted in a ballroom dance class.

In the film he can be seen dancing with Mrs Thatcher, in a scene set in 1981.

Mr Green said acting with Ms Streep was "absolutely delightful".

Describing her as "charming and warm", he added: "There was no side to her at all... and we giggled an awful lot."

The film, which opened in the UK at the weekend, is tipped for huge wins at the Oscars.

Mr Green said he had previously not thought he looked like Mr Reagan.

"It was not until I sent through the photographs - I chose to go on Ronald Reagan's website and looked at his pictures, and looked at mine, and thought 'wow, there really is a resemblance', and that's when I started to think maybe this is for real."

He added that "it came as a bit of a shock" when he saw himself up on the big screen at a private screening for the cast and crew.

"But the film is so absorbing... tremendously powerful, and suddenly there I was," he said.

Mr Green said he would continue with acting, and already had an agent in the hope of getting future roles.
