Burglars targeting fruit machines in Dover

Seven burglaries at pubs and social clubs in the Dover area in which gaming machines were targeted are believed to be linked, Kent Police have said.

Cash was taken from three fruit machines in the latest break-in at a social club in Dover High Street in the early hours of Thursday.

The first incident was on 19 December when intruders damaged a fruit machine at a pub in Canterbury Road, Lydden.

Others took place in Maison Dieu, Temple Ewell and London Road.

A social club in Willingdon Road, Whitfield, and a pub in Wingham High Street were also targeted.

"Officers have been out speaking to owners of social clubs and pubs to make them aware of the burglaries and to offer crime prevention advice," said Det Con Leigh Woolnough.

"Meanwhile we are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and phone the police if they see any suspicious activity outside business premises."
