Human remains found near a railway line in Kent are believed to be a missing 58-year-old man named locally as Harry Bartlett.

A skull and other bones were discovered in Herne Bay on Monday by workmen clearing undergrowth.

Mr Bartlett was last seen on 5 November 2004 and searches by police and coastguards failed to find him.

An initial post-mortem examination on Tuesday failed to determine what had caused Mr Bartlett's death.

British Transport police said they were treating his death as unexplained and that his family had been informed.

The remains were found near Margate Road and Reculver Road.
