Two men from Kent, including a former leader of Thanet District Council, have appeared in court charged with fraud and misconduct in a public office.

Sandy Ezekiel, 59, of Crown Hill, Broadstairs, is charged with misconduct in a public office and fraud.

Philip Emmanuel, 64, of Laleham Gardens in Margate, is accused of aiding and abetting fraud.

They appeared at Maidstone Magistrates' Court earlier and were bailed to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 21 May.

The pair, who are accused of using council information in relation to the purchase of two properties, are expected to deny all charges.

Mr Ezekiel is a Conservative member of Thanet District Council and was leader of the authority from 2003 to 2010.
