Bomb hoaxes emailed to Canterbury university campuses

Three bomb hoaxes have been made to university campuses in Canterbury in the last few days.

Police said emailed bomb warnings were sent to both the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University.

In all the incidents buildings were evacuated to allow police and campus security staff to carry out searches.

Nothing was found at either site, but a number of exams had to be cancelled at the University of Kent on Thursday as a result of the disruption.

The first bomb hoax was reported to police at 07:40 BST on Monday by staff at Canterbury Christ Church following concerns about emails they had received.

The university was also targeted on Thursday at about 08:25 BST, while emails were received by the University of Kent about an hour later.

Last year, two bomb hoaxes in the centre of Canterbury caused a major alert in the city.
