A man who was accused of attacking a former News of the World journalist who now runs a pub was freed from court after the case was dismissed.

Jake Clapson, 18, of Clarendon Place, Dover, appeared before magistrates on Thursday, when a submission of no case to answer was upheld.

Mr Clapson had denied assaulting pub landlord Paul McMullan last June.

It was claimed the attack took place in Mr McMullan's pub, the Castle Inn, on Russell Street.

Mr McMullan is a former features editor at the News of the World.
