Kent fake charity collector Michelle Roberts to pay back cash

A Kent woman who falsely collected money for a children's hospice has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay back the cash.

Michelle Roberts, 43, of Gravesend, who admitted six counts of fraud before Dartford magistrates, was also told to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

She posed as a collector for Demelza and was arrested in May after incidents in Medway, Dartford and Gravesend.

Roberts, of Ascot Road, was told to pay £326.69 to Demelza and £85 in costs.

Magistrates also ordered her to attend a group for women offenders for six months.

A spokeswoman for Kent Probation said the group, called Prospects, was an all-female group that responded to the needs of women offenders and helped members improve their prospects and deal with their offending.
